The best part about it is that Synergy is 100% free and all that you are required to have in order to run it is Half-Life 2. I’m just DYING to try and run the coast with enough people to warrant using a van or a truck. And Synergy comes with vehicles that can be spawned that have seats for seven or eight people (the former being the orange van from Episode 1, the latter being the blue truck that you see ruined here and there).

Imagine my surprise when it turned out he was actually able to use his guns from the neighboring seat! Not only did we get through the coast area with little incident, but he actually had fun running through a part of the game that he had oft looked upon with disdain.

When we got to the coast, I was able to spawn for us a two seated jeep so that he could simply come along for the ride.

I was playing with a guy who loved the airboats but hated driving the jeep. The most fun part I found, however, is the custom vehicle stuff. And best of all, you can get extra health and give it to teammates who are hurting in the style of NPC medics (ammo too, though I’ve rarely had to go there). If somebody passes through a scripted area like an elevator or something, even if it’s not immediate, everybody does get teleported ahead to meet each other. When one player is given a new weapon, everyone is given it automatically. Each player is represented by their Steam icon floating over their head, which is used as a sort of radar in essence, allowing you to keep tabs on where everybody is at any given time. As I said earlier, the Synergy interface does very little to interfere with the actual gameplay mechanics, only improving upon certain facets to make co-op more viable. I recently played through all of Half-Life 2 with a friend of mine, and the gameplay is actually phenomenally more fun than it is with just one player. Ability to mount other third-party mods (and games).Full Half-Life 2, Episode 1 and Episode 2 support.
